SOUTH SIKKIM
South Sikkim is a district of Sikkim. Its capital is Namchi. South District of Sikkim lies at an altitude of 400 mtr to 2000 mtr with unique and countryside escape of endless waves of agricultural fields and the terraced slopes, intercepted by spring patched forests and encompasses a total area of around 75000 hectares. Area wise, it is the smallest district of Sikkim and population-wise, second one. South Sikkim is perhaps the least visited part in Sikkim. Serene and nostalgic; a district having unique countryside landscape dotted with Sikkimese and Lepcha villages on the rolling valleys. The endless waves of agricultural field on the terraced slopes intercepted by streams and patch forests are the landmark of South Sikkim.

Namchi or Namtse (meaning Sky High) is the headquarter of South Sikkim, which is nestled among the hills having elevation of 5500 fts and which commands panoramic view of snowcapped mountains and vast stretches of valley. Namchi is around 78 km away from the capital Gangtok and is the closest major Sikkim city to Siliguri (around 85 km), which is gateway to enter in Sikkim from West Bengal. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) (around 105 km) and nearest Airport is Bagdogra (around 110 km) from Namchi. The Melli check post is the entry point to South District from West Bengal. The most important tourism destination in South Sikkim that has been recently developed and thrown open to the tourists is Ravangla. Famous for its peaceful environment and prominent view of snow-capped mountains of Khanchenjungha, Ravangla is well connected by motorable road from Gangtok (65 kms) Namchi (32kms). In the vein of other districts of Sikkim, the South district is not behind in any case whether talking about its natural splendor or fresh towns. Namchi
Namchi is the capital of the South Sikkim district of Sikkim. The appellation Namchi means Sky (Nam) High (Chi) in Bhutia.
Namchi is situated at an altitude of 1,675 m (5500 feet) above sea level. It is situated at a distance of 92 km from the state capital Gangtok. Namchi lies off the road between Melli and Jorethang. Namchi is well connected to other towns in and West Bengal.
Historical facts state that the entire state of Sikkim was once under the reign of the Chogyals. In addition, it is also believed that the Chogyals were the main emperors of Sikkim as well as Ladakh. As per legend, it is said that the Sikkimese Princess, Pende Ongmoo, cheated a Sikkimese Chogyal. The supporters of Chogyal after knowing this got angry and killed her. The place where the princess was killed is believed to be present day Namchi. In addition, it is also believed that her spirit still haunts the foothills of Ghurpisey.

Samdruptse
It is near Namchi in South Sikkim in Samdruptse which means in Bhutia language “The Wish Fulfilling Hill”. Located on a soaring hilltop, 7.5 km from the marketplace, the spot also offers some spectacular sights. One can also catch some fabulous sunrise and sunset upon this "wish fulfilling hill".A unique, awe inspiring and gigangtic 135 ft unique statue of Guru Padmasambhava is installed at the top of Samdruptse. His Holiness The Dalai Lama laid the foundation stone of the statue on 22.10.1997. Is is said to be the highest statue of Guru Padmasambhava in the world. It took 1000 laborers and scores of experienced engineers and highly skilled architects and sculptors nearly three years to complete this awe inspiring and towering statue. A two section Ropeway from Namchi to Samdruptse in under construction. It will pass through the Rock Garden, Namchi.
Guru Padmasambhava also known as Guru Rimpoche had blessed Sikkim more than 1200 years ago. The statue is therefore a fitting tribute to this patron saint of Sikkim. The statue funded by the State Government was constructed and installed by His Eminence Dodrupchen Rimpoche and members of his Chorten trust.
The ultimate plan is to make Samdruptse as an international pilgrimage centre on completion of meditation huts, ropeway library, guest house, public amenities, parking yard etc, around the towering statue. The message of love, compassion, peace and harmony is aimed to spread throughout the world from this historic hill.
VOLCANO HILL OR Samdruptse Hill
Formerly, Samdruptse hill was believed to be a volcano, which is now dormant. According to myths, it is said that Buddhist saints and monks go up the hill and pray that the volcano does not erupt.
Ngadak Monastery,
Ngadak Monastery is located in Namchi. The monastery was built by Pedi Wangmo, half-sister of Chogyal Chagdor Namgyal. Built beautifully with stone and wood, the monastery was virtually destroyed and is now supported by iron railings. The monastery is a center for tantra. A new Ngadak Monastery has been built near the old one. The two monasteries are in the middle of a forest housing a large number of medicinal plants.
Namchi Monastery
Namchi Monastery is located just above the town and was constructed during the regime of Chogyal Ghurmed Namgyal. The harshness of the trekking trail to this monastery makes it impossible for many people to reach this place.
Serdup Cheling Monastery:
Lying around 1 km from Namchi, this is a monastery that was constructed by the Nyingmapa Buddhist sect. The serene ambience, the tranquil atmosphere and the absolutely quiet surroundings hypnotizes a tourist and the individual actually feels a kind of soul cleansing here. There is a handicraft centre here very close by which sells the best of Sikkimese handicrafts. The entire town of Namchi is visible from here and the tourist gets taken in by the panoramic view of the lovely beautiful region of Namchi.
Duchen Cheling Monastery:
This is a monastery built on similar lines like that of Serdup Cheling Monastery. Namchi, located a kilometer away and this place has the credit being a part of the Nyingmapa Buddhist sect construction. The serenity and tranquility are a part and parcel of this monastery.
Kewzing Monastery:
Lying on the route to Ravangla from Namchi, this is a certain halt for people who want to feel the fresh and clear ambience of a serene surrounding. A tired tourist could halt here, have some rejuvenation and continue. That is the effect that this monastery gives to people.
Ahalay Monastery :
Monastery of H.E.Serdup Dungzin Rinpoche is located about 1 KM from Namchi. It is just above Baichung Stadium. Monastery stands overlooking range of Mt.Kanchunjunga.
Doling Gumpa
Follows the Nyimgpa sect of Buddhism which is also the oldest Sect and commonly refferd to as The Red Hat Sect. A hike to the monastry also allows one a close a experience of the rich flora and fauna of the area.
Solophok

The Rock Garden

Namchi Garden:
This is a garden with a beautiful array of flowers. In February all flower lovers come here and see the flower show held here every year. This is largest of its kind in Sikkim and people are mesmerized with the vibrant colors and their variety. Orchids are a popular feature here and the rare display of exotic orchids is a wonderful feast for the eye. In addition, the place also hosts Namchi Mahotsav in October which is a tourism, culture and food festival.Salleybong Bul Cave
Also known as the 'wishing cave' in local circles, this is a holy site of Hindus. Distance from town is about 30 minutes drive.
Tirikhola Dancing Falls
It’s a 30-minute downhill drive from Namchi to get this attractive waterfall but an alternative foot-trail is quicker.
Timi Tea Garden
This is About 18 km from town. This is the one and only tea estate existing in the State produces one of the top quality teas in the international market. Temi Tea Garden was established in 1969. Timi Tea Garden is spread around an area of 500 acres of undulating hill-slopes, this picturesque tea garden is famous for it's tea garden is famous for it's 'tea' and known for it's unusual flavor. The autumn bloom of the cherry trees lining the road through the estate is indeed one of the most gorgeous sights. The garden employs about 450 people and produces 100 matric ton of orthodox tea annually. The garden produces some of the best teas in the world. The original tea saplings were brought from Darjeeling and the produce of the garden are not very different from what one can expect from the gardens of Darjeeling Hills.The tea garden is spread out on a gentle hill slope originating from the Tendong Hill and provides a magnificent view for the surrounding villages. The visit to the fact" could be an eye opener for those wanting to know more about the tea processing methods.There is facility of taking the tourist round the tea factory which shows how tea leaves are plucked, dried, powdered and manufactured into the favorite beverage that hits the table every morning at every tea lover’s house.Temi tea also a common souvenir for tourists visiting the state. Most of the tea produced in the garden is either consumed locally or purchased by tourists.A night spent in a old British built bungalow located just below the tea garden could be an enthralling experience of linking the past to the present. A visit to the garden, enroute to the Tendong Hill, could be a rewarding experience for those who want to cornbine nature and culture as they keep trekking.
Tendong State biodiversity Park
This park is located around about 16 km from the Namchi Town, repository of invaluable species of Himalayan medicinal plants and is looked after by the Forest Department. The Forest Department of Sikkim takes care of this. Rare species are found here and the Biodiversity Park is a conserved zone. A tourist coming here likes to know more about plants he has not seen and species he hasn’t found. It is also preserved for the conservation of these rare species.
Rayong Sunrise View PointWhen one goes to Ravangla from Namchi, this magnificently beautiful spot brings a tourist into a tearing halt and he stops to have a look at the beautiful view of the sunrise from here.Laying en route to Ravangla, 16 km from the town, this fascinating spot offers stunning views of sunrise flaring up the snowy peak of Mount Narshing, Jopuno Kabur and Pandim. The sunrise looks like a huge ball of flame exploding from behind these peaks. Tourists halt here and come here early morning to have a glimpse of the sunrise.Assangthang Village Experience

Baichung Stadium
Baichung Stadium is a football stadium in Namchi, The stadium was built by the Government of Sikkim in honour of Baichung Bhutia, India's most well known contemporary footballer. The state plans to actively promote the sport made popular after Bhutia became the first Indian to play in a European league and captain the national team. "The Gold Cup" football tournament is held in Bhaichung Stadium almost every year. Football teams from all over India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan vie for the honour.

A Ropeway is also being constructed from Samdruptse to Namchi town and then to Char Dham for People to see panaromic views of the hills.

Helipad :
Located about 5 KM from Namchi is a picturesque spot to relax and enjoy the nature. Helipad is located 5 kms away from town at an altitude of around 5000 fts. From here one can get the most panaromic view of Mt. Kanchanzonga with the surrounding mountain a part of Darjeeling Kalimgpong and the rolling plains of Bengal. Flower show
In the month of February, the Namchi garden hosts it annual flower show. The flower show is the largest in Sikkim with flowers in a riot of colours. The prime attraction of this show is the display of exotic and rare orchids.
Rangit Water World:
This is a lake that has been formed by the Rangit Dam. There are facilities for swimming, boating and fishing here. Tourists come here for fun and enjoyment. Children have fun and this place situated around 26km from Ravangla is a good stopover for those who want to unwind with leisure.
RAVANGLA
A small town situated on the ridge separating the Teesta valley from the Rangit valley at an altitude of 6,800ft between the Meanam and Tendong hills Ravangla has turned into a natural tourist resort for its magical snow view; is lately emerged as a natural tourist retreat. Ravangla or Ravongla is a small tourist town situated at an elevation of 6,800 ft in South Sikkim district of Sikkim. This is a relatively new tourist spot in south Sikkim. Snuggled at the foothills of Mount Narsing, this sleepy little town also forms a neighbor of the mighty peaks of Mount Tendong and Mount Menam. It is the sub-divisional headquarter of the South district of Sikkim. Situated at an elevation of 6,800 ft the small picturesque semi town on the Gangtok-Gaysiling highway, Ravangla is becoming a hot destination for its breathtaking landscape and tranquility. The gompas of Old Ralang, Tashiding, Pemayangtse and Sangachoeling, all distantly visible against a horizon with snow-capped peaks. The town itself is a modern creation of little aesthetic distinction, but useful as a hub to visit Ralang. The town located in South Sikkim District is an ideal location for village tourism. Surrounding villages of Yangang, Tinkitam, Kewzing, Barfung & Bakhim are ideal for short stays in the homes of the villagers. The town of Ravangla harbors the Ralang Hot Springs. The Ralang Hot Springs have been streaming down the hilltops of India since 1768. Ravangla is among one of the few veritable places in Sikkim to offer an undisturbed and unmatched views view of the snow ranges of Greater Himalayas. Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Pandim, Mt. Sinialchu, Mt. Kabru are just a few of the major peaks that are clearly visible from here. The rocky topography of the region along with the verdant hills lends an enchanting effect to Ravangla. Upper parts of Ravangla experiences snowfall during winter.The beauty of its landscape and its location as a transit point to nearby destinations has made Ravangla a must-visit place. Thousands of known and unknown flowers are in full bloom during April-May and Ravangla gets a romantic look with the colours and fragrance of the flowers.Ravangla stages the Pang Lhabsol festival in a grand manner every year around August-September. The festivities last for three days, culminating in the traditional dances known as ‘Chaam’ on the last day.
The forest clad hills are spots of amazing eco-diversity. Ravangla itself has scrub forest which attracts a rich variety of Himalayan birds. They are home to many rare birds and animals especially found in the jungles of Oak, magnolia and rhododendron. Birds like Verditer Flycatchers, Blue-fronted Redstarts, Grey Bushchats, Dark throated Thrush, Blue whistling Thrush, Green backed Tit and white-browed Fantails can be easily spotted and should not be missed.This silent valley is favoured stop for birding the nearby Damtang forest (2 kms) and Maenam Wild Life Sanctuary (2.5 kms). The forests around Ravangla resound with the unmistakable calls of Laughingthrushes, Babblers, Cuckoos and Hill Partridge. The rare Satyr Tragopan makes Maenam a home and the lucky can hear its breeding call from the higher reaches of Ravangla.

Ravangla is also an ideal place for trekking and hiking. There are various trekking spots located in the nearby mountains and this can prove to be one of the most trekking experiences of one’s life. A 12 km trek from Ravangla through the Oak, Pine, Rhododendron, Magnolia and fir forests will take you to Mainam peak at 10,600 ft. Another 1.5 km uphill trek leads to valedunga, a hilltop offering beautiful view to the surrounding mountains. The entire trek route passes through the Mainam Sanctuary which houses a rare collection of Himalayan species like the red panda, Himalayan black bear, leopard cat, black pheasant cat etc. It also acts as the starting point for the trek to maenam la wildlife sanctuary.Ravangla is rapidly expanding and spectacularly perched overlooking a wide sweep of western Sikkim.
This town comes alive during the Pang Lhabsol festival when the spectacular Warrior Dance is performed at the Ravang Monastery by the locals. Beyond these Ravangla has gained importance as a transit place for tourists on their way to Yuksam, Pemayangtse and trekkers or hikers aspiring to scale Menam peak.

Kheunpheling Carpet Centre
The carpet-weaving centre is in the Tibetan Refugee Settlement Camp located just above Ravangla town. The traditionally designed & woven woolen carpets produced here are amongst the finest Tibetan carpets one can buy anywhere.
Ralang Ralang is situated about 13 kms below Ravangla.having MONASTERY, GOOMPA and HOT SPRING to attract any travelers attraction.
Ralang Monastery
Ralang Monastery is a Buddhist monastery of the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It lies at a distance of approximately 6 km from Ravangla. There is a story attached to the construction of the monastery. After the fourth Chogyal came back from his pilgrimage, the Karmapa performed the Rabney (blessing). As per the ceremony, he threw grains from the Tsurphu Monastery in Tibet (the main seat of Karmapa). The ground where the grains fell, eventually, became the site for the Ralang Monastery. The monastery belongs to the Kagyupa order. One of the most significant as well as the most blessed monasteries in Sikkim, Ralang also serves as the residence of approximately one hundred monks. The period of 1975-1981 saw reconstruction work being carried out in the monastery. Then, in 1995, a new monastery, known as Palchen Choeling Monastic Institute", was built. Constructed by the 12th Gyaltsab Rimpoche, the monastery still retains the genuine Tibetan architecture. One of the major attractions of the Ralang Gompa of India is its amazing collection of paintings and thangkas. Ralang monastery plays host to an annual festival, known as Pang Lhabsol or the worship of Mount Khangchendzonga and Kagyad. Chaam masked dances are also organized every year, on the 15th day of the seventh month of the Buddhist calendar (August-September) and on the 29th day of the tenth month of the Buddhist calendar (December). The sacred Mahakala Dance takes place every year in the month of November.
Ralang Gompa
The Old Ralong Gompa is located very close to the new Palchen Choeling Monastic Institute. It was built in 1768. The GOMPA belongs of to Karma Kagyu sect. There are good views of Kabur, Narsing and Jopuno mountains in the backdrop of the GOMPA.
Ralang hot spring or Ralang Cha-chu,
The Ralong Hot Springs, known also as the Ralang Cha-chu, It is situated at a distance of 26 kms from Ravangla and 7 km from the village of Borong and 4 km from the Naya Bazaar on the banks of River Rangit. It is Located at an altitude of 8,000 ft above sea level, The average temperature of the water here is 50 degree Celsius and is rich in sulphur contents.The water of this hot spring has medicinal value as it contains sulphur and can cure skin diseases. Visitors spend a week or more soaking in these springs that have medicinal properties believed to cure many skin n other ailments of joints, bones n muscles. Apart from being medicinal, these springs also have religious importance, as they are found in one of the four holy caves of Sikkim. The area is also an ideal spot for butterfly and bird watchers.

Tendong Hill
Tendong Hill is a vantage point that provides a spectacular view of the valley in Sikkim. A 20 kms drive to Damthang & 2.5 hrs treks takes one upto the Tendong peak.The 8530 ft tall Tendong Hill is one of the most prominent attractions of Ravangla, as well as of the South Sikkim. For trekking enthusiasts and nature lovers, Tendong Hill is the perfect locale for mountain trekking owing to its tranquility and picture perfect view of nature. Offering a magnificent view of the splendid Himalayan ranges coupled with the valley that gives a feeling of being bottomless, the hill bordered by dense forests, and budding Magnolias & Rhododendrons makes the forests significant for exploring by trekking.
Tendong Hill is a renowned landmark in southern part of Sikkim. Owing to its tranquility, Tendong had been the hermit of Buddhist Lamas, who had spent years in meditation amidst the quiet scenic opulence. From the top of Tendong Hill, the vista appears to be inconceivable. It seems as if God himself might have thought twice after its creation, where everything is just perfect.The word Tendong derived from upraised horn from the Lepcha lore relating the time when a great flood submerged their land and Tendong rose up miraculously like a horn to save them.This hill is the subject of many myths passed down through generations of the indigenous Lepchas. Its name translates as “the upraised horn”, which has been given to it by the Lepchas, at the time when their land was submerged in flood waters. Since then, there has been a tradition at this hill, that a monk visits it during the monsoons and stays there throughout the season, continuously praying that the calamity does not repeat itself.
Tendong Hill (8500 feet) offers a spectacular 360 degree view of Sikkim and the distant plains of North Bengal. A panoramic view from the Hill scans the grand Himalayan ranges together with the valley that gives the impression of it being bottomless. The Hill is encircled by dense forests, which abodes blossoming tress like that of magnolia and rhododendron. These forests are worth exploring and who knows if you could come out with some fantastic sighting. Tendong Hill overlooks Namchi and far away, one can see plains of Bengal. One can easily come to Tendong by trekking through Ravangla and if you still want to trek more, you can move towards Maenam Hill that lies above Tendong Hill.
MenamSanctuary
Menam (10,600 ft) is located about 12 km up hill trek from Ravangla. A traditional meditation site for the monks it is also vantage location for a spectacular view the mountains at sunrise. The trek takes about 2.5 hrs to 4 hrs (depending on one's speed) and winds through a thick forest of oak, chestnut, magnolia and rhododendron trees. The forest is a riot of colours during spring (March/April). A natural habitat of the red panda, Himalayan black bear and many species of deer, this area is designated as a Wildlife Sanctuary and the motto of leaving only footprints & taking back only photographs & good memories is required to be followed strictly to maintain the area.
Menam Hill:
Menam Hill towers above Tendong Hill on the other side over-lookjing the Ravangla bazaar settlement. Situated at an altitude of 10,300 ft, the scenic view from this height is, perhaps, unmatched in this part of the world. Mt Khangchendzonga and its surrounding ranges loom above to dwarf the richly forested and rugged hills. On a clear sunny day, it is possible to see the plains of Bengal spanning across Kalimpong and Darjeeling hills in the South, right across to the Indo-China border towards the North. A short distance away is the lengendary Bhaley Dunga, a kind of rocky spur which juts out from the ridge top and remains suspended in the air above Yangang village. The trek to Menam from Ravangla takes about 4 hours and from Menam hill-top one has the option to take the gentle trek to Borong village or follow the more treacherous trails taken by the famous British Botanist, Sir Joseph Hooker, down to Yangang village. The wonderful sight is to be seen to be believed.
Trekking around Ravangla
Ravangla also offers some fabulous short treks. A 12 km trek from Ravangla through the Oak, Pine, Rhododendron, Magnolia and fir forests will take you to Mainam peak at 10,600 ft. Another 1.5 km uphill trek leads to valedunga, a hilltop offering beautiful views to the surrounding mountains. The entire trek route passes through the Mainam Sanctuary which houses a rare collection of Himalayan species like the red panda, Himalayan black bear, leopard cat, black pheasant cat etc. Trek starts with a 13 km drive to Damthang and 2.5 hrs trek.

Doling Gompa
The Doling Gompa or Monastery is situated in the Barfung Village. This Gompa or monastery follows the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism, which is also the oldest sect and commonly referred to as the Red Hat sect. Located about 4 kms away in the Barfung village amidst cardamom plantations, a hike to the monastery also allows one a close experience of the rich flora & avifauna of the area. Its location amongst the cardamom plantations also provides an opportunity to see the rich flora and fauna of the region.
Kewzing Village:-
8 kms from Ravangla is Kewzing Village which offers the opportunity of experiencing the rural life in Sikkim. You can stay here with a local family in village home stays and experience the warmth of Sikkimese hospitality. The Bon Monastery here is the only one of its kind in Sikkim and is a symbol of the determination of a community to preserve their religious traditions. Located 2 kms from Kewzing bazaar is the Mangbrue Gompa, which follows the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism. The invading Bhutanese army used this strategic location in the 19th century and the ruins of their bunkers and outposts can still be seen.
Bon Monastery
Besides the main Legship road, 5.5 kms from central Ravangla at Kewzing, small but fascinating Yung Drung Kundrak Lingbon is the only Bon Monastery in Sikkim. The Bon faith preceded Buddhism in Tibet. Its relevance and impact on Buddhist philosophy is brought superbly alive by the impeccable explanations of the monastery’s joyful English teacher, Lama Yungdrung Tenzing.
The Bon faith flourished in Tibet upto the 8th Century AD prior to the advent of Buddhism. It is believed that many of it's rituals were assimilated in Buddhism like the prayer flags, burning of incense etc. and with the passage of time this faith was also influenced by Buddhism and has now been accepted as a part of Buddhism. The Bon monastery at Kewzing, the only one of its kind in Sikkim, is located 5 km from Ravangla. This monastery was established in the latter half of 1980s and is a symbol of the determination of a community of people at Kewzing to preserve their religious traditions.
Mangbrue Gompa & view point
Located 8 km above Kewzing, the Mangbrue Gompa is also an excellent view point of the mountains and hills.
Handicraft centre, Kewzing A training centre set up by the government to keep alive the tradition of Sikkimese handicraft & handloom. At the centre one can observe young boys & girls learn the intricate art of wood carving & weaving. This is also a place to pick up some local souvenirs.
Tinkitam
Tinkitam is a quaint small Sikkimese village situated 6 km away from the town of Ravangla. The place is mainly famous for being the home of the Indian soccer celebrity, Baichung Bhutia. But known only to orchid lovers this village is also the natural habitat to a rare species of orchid. The surroundings of this village are home to rare species of orchids and Paphiopedilum Faireanum, popularly known as ladies slipper. The orchids present near this village are are terrestrial orchids that bloom during the months of October and November. An effort is underway to preserve the natural habitat of this beautiful flower. The location of Tinkitam Village also provides a view of the dormant volcano that one can come across during the trek from Dentham to Tendong National Park. Tinkitam Village is being promoted as a tourist destination. Mount Kanchenjanga lies in the background of Tinkitam Village.
Borong
Facing the snow-capped mountains is Borongmotorable from Ravangla or a trek via Maenam.A picturesque village with beautiful landscape and magnificent view is also host to the hot spring"Borong Tsa-Chu". Located at an altitude of 5,800 feet, Borong is one of the most beautiful destinations in South Sikkim. Situated around 17 km from Ravangla, the destination is home to a hot spring, which is known as Borong Tsa Chu. Tourists visiting Borong can enjoy beautiful views of Mount Kanchenjunga as well as the peaks of Sinolchu, Narsingh and Pandim. For bird lovers, Borong is one of the ideal locations as it is home to several species of birds such as scarlet minivet, black magpie and Himalayan pheasants. Other than this, trekking is another activity here, which attracts trekkers from all over the world. Borong provides a good base to those trekking to Maenam Peak.
One can catch a glimpse of some extraordinary views of Mt. Kanchenjungha and other the snowcapped peaks. And a spectacular sight of sunrise from the snow-covered mountains is perhaps the main reason behind a visit to this beautiful place. One can also look for glances of Sinolchu, Narsingh and Pandim peaks.

Sikip is another destination that is getting renowned due to its serene atmosphere and great hide-out. Perched on the banks of river Rangeet in a natural surrounding is an excellent fishing spot and river campsite. This place is Anglers paradise, and also has charming natural surrounding. One can also opt for rafting on the river.
Phur-cha-chu (Hot Springs):
Ideal spot for bird watching and butterflies.At 8 kms from Legship and 34 km from Ravangla towards Naya Bazaar on the banksof river Rangit, lies the popular Hot Sulphur Springs. Its great medicinal values as well as religious importance attract many tourists and local devotees. The place is also important for two sacred caves Khandosangphu and Sharchog Begphu, where the great Buddhist Saint Padmashambhava is believed to have meditated during His journey to Tibet in 7th century.
Khandosangphu and Sharchog Bephug
These are two of the four holy caves where Guru Padmasambhava, the saint who spread Buddhism in Tibet in the 7th century AD, is said to have meditated during his journey to Tibet.
Khandosangphu - the cave of the occult fairies is located 34 kms from Ravangla (8 kms beyond Legshep). The legendary fight between Guru Rimpoche & a female demon who was terrorising the area is manifested in the rock formations in the cave. A place for pilgrimage to the devout, there is also a hot sulphur spring "Phur Cha-chu" where people come to bath during the winter months.
Sharchog Bephug is at Sangmo village about 8 kms from Ravangla is the largest of holy caves and it is said to extend into the Menam and Tendong hills.
Buddha Park (Sakyamuni Project), Rabong:-
2006 marked the 2550th birth anniversary of Lord Gautama Buddha. The state government in a policy decision had decided to observe the birth anniversary throughout the year in Sikkim. As a part of the celebrations, an initiative was taken by the people of Rabong to construct and install a statue of Lord Buddha at Rabong, to commemorate the 2550th year, and also to develop the Buddhist Circuit in Sikkim. The state government has already kicked off the Buddhist circuit and this project would give the much required impetus to boost tourism and attract pilgrim tourists to the area.
Singchu-thang
: 45 km from Gangtok at an altitude of 3,500 ft on the banks of river Tista, Singchu-thang is ideal for white water sports and picturesque picnic. It literelly means, The plain overgrown with dwarf plants and shrubs’.
TESTA BAZAR
Teesta Bazaar is a small town in SOUTH DISTRICT of SIKKIM.it is an upcoming Tourist destination in this region.
Teesta Bazaar, also known as tenth mile among local people, is a shopper's paradise and the main bazaar (market) area in Kalimpong. Situated 90m above sea level, it is located on National Highway 31A on the Siliguri – Gangtok highway. Teesta Bazaar is located 4 kms downwards from the industrial town of Melli. This is where the Teesta River flows into West Bengal.The main market flourishes with craft, handicraft items and artefacts made by local craftsmen. The main attractions of the Bazaar are the costly crafted items which are not easily available elsewhere. One can shop for local items like thankas, crockery, daggers, footwear, lanterns, copper items, silver wares, jewellery and food items at moderate rates from this bazaar. Most of the area here is patrolled by the IndianArmy as it comes under a sensitive border area.

Jorethang Jorethang is a major town in the South District of Sikkim. It on the Rangeet river, a tributary of River Teesta. The town is well connected to Darjeeling, Siliguri and Kalimpong. River rafting can be undertaken near Jorethang.
Maghe Sankranti:
Celebrated on the first day of the month of Magh (January), the festival continues for three days. It is one of the holy festivals of the Hindus. Huge fairs are organized along the river banks and confluence of the rivers. Jorethang, Saramsa, Rorathang and Triveni are places where such fairs are held every year. The rituals are solemnized from dawn at the banks of the rivers, which is indeed a rare spectle to watch.
Melli or MELLI BAZAR is another spot of tourist attraction in this days not only by itself only also for its soroundings.
Melli or MELLI BAZAR
Melli which is also spelt Malli and also known as MELLI BAZAR is a town on the West Bengal-Sikkim border near the River Teesta. The appellation Melli in Nepali means "the place where the dead are cremated". Melli is one of the few towns in India that lie in two different states. A bridge named Jawaharlal Nehru Bridge connects the two parts of the town. It is the longest bridge in Sikkim. The part of the town in West Bengal is also called as Melli Bazaar. The town lies on National Highway 31A connecting NEW JALPAIGURI/BAGDOGRA to Gangtok and also to oter parts of SIKKIM. Melli is the main entry point for West and South Sikkim districts The town lies at an elevation of about 100 m. It is located 7 km upstream from Teesta Bazaar. On the Sikkim side lies Yuksom Breweries which produces most of the beer in the region. The brewery and a biscuit factory are the major industries in the region. River rafting can also be undertaken from this point.
Tooruk
Tooruk is situated just 30 minutes drive from Malli Bazaar in South Sikkim; Tooruk offers a soothing refuge from the bustling city life, with its exotic natural splendor. You could just relax on the lawns and be pampered by fresh air and the surroundings of Tooruk Estate. Tooruk is a private estate spanning 9 acres of lush greenery and the heritage home is the only accommodation here.
The main attraction in Tooruk is the Heritage Home, an age-old estate built amidst acres of exotic varieties of flora and fauna. It needs to be added here that Tooruk is a private estate spanning 9 acres and the heritage home is the only accommodation here. There are separate cottages having accommodation for a total of 12 people in 4 cottages. There are no telephones or television in the cottages and who needs them in such a tranquil paradise. But to answer to the morden days need and habits a minimum avalibility of a Television is here on the Common lounge area in the main house. Delicious homemade dishes, prepared from organically grown fresh vegetables and fruits are also served to the guests. Eggs and chicken also constitute a part of the menu.
South Sikkim is a district of Sikkim. Its capital is Namchi. South District of Sikkim lies at an altitude of 400 mtr to 2000 mtr with unique and countryside escape of endless waves of agricultural fields and the terraced slopes, intercepted by spring patched forests and encompasses a total area of around 75000 hectares. The Melli check post is the entry point to South District from West Bengal. Famous for its peaceful environment and prominent view of snow-capped mountains of Khanchenjungha, Ravangla is well connected by motorable road from Gangtok (65 kms) Namchi (32kms). Namchi
Namchi is the capital of the South Sikkim district of Sikkim. The appellation Namchi means Sky (Nam) High (Chi) in Bhutia.
Namchi is situated at an altitude of 1,675 m (5500 feet) above sea level. It is situated at a distance of 92 km from the state capital Gangtok. Namchi lies off the road between Melli and Jorethang. Namchi is well connected to other towns in and West Bengal.
Historical facts state that the entire state of Sikkim was once under the reign of the Chogyals. In addition, it is also believed that the Chogyals were the main emperors of Sikkim as well as Ladakh. As per legend, it is said that the Sikkimese Princess, Pende Ongmoo, cheated a Sikkimese Chogyal. The supporters of Chogyal after knowing this got angry and killed her. The place where the princess was killed is believed to be present day Namchi. In addition, it is also believed that her spirit still haunts the foothills of Ghurpisey.

Samdruptse
It is near Namchi in South Sikkim in Samdruptse which means in Bhutia language “The Wish Fulfilling Hill”. Located on a soaring hilltop, 7.5 km from the marketplace, the spot also offers some spectacular sights. One can also catch some fabulous sunrise and sunset upon this "wish fulfilling hill".A unique, awe inspiring and gigangtic 135 ft unique statue of Guru Padmasambhava is installed at the top of Samdruptse. His Holiness The Dalai Lama laid the foundation stone of the statue on 22.10.1997. Is is said to be the highest statue of Guru Padmasambhava in the world. It took 1000 laborers and scores of experienced engineers and highly skilled architects and sculptors nearly three years to complete this awe inspiring and towering statue. Guru Padmasambhava also known as Guru Rimpoche had blessed Sikkim more than 1200 years ago. The statue is therefore a fitting tribute to this patron saint of Sikkim. The statue funded by the State Government was constructed and installed by His Eminence Dodrupchen Rimpoche and members of his Chorten trust.
The ultimate plan is to make Samdruptse as an international pilgrimage centre on completion of meditation huts, ropeway library, guest house, public amenities, parking yard etc, around the towering statue. The message of love, compassion, peace and harmony is aimed to spread throughout the world from this historic hill.
VOLCANO HILL OR Samdruptse Hill
Formerly, Samdruptse hill was believed to be a volcano, which is now dormant. According to myths, it is said that Buddhist saints and monks go up the hill and pray that the volcano does not erupt.
Ngadak Monastery,
Ngadak Monastery is located in Namchi. The monastery was built by Pedi Wangmo, half-sister of Chogyal Chagdor Namgyal. Built beautifully with stone and wood, the monastery was virtually destroyed and is now supported by iron railings. The monastery is a center for tantra. A new Ngadak Monastery has been built near the old one. The two monasteries are in the middle of a forest housing a large number of medicinal plants.
Namchi Monastery
Namchi Monastery is located just above the town and was constructed during the regime of Chogyal Ghurmed Namgyal. The harshness of the trekking trail to this monastery makes it impossible for many people to reach this place.
Serdup Cheling Monastery:
Lying around 1 km from Namchi, this is a monastery that was constructed by the Nyingmapa Buddhist sect. The serene ambience, the tranquil atmosphere and the absolutely quiet surroundings hypnotizes a tourist and the individual actually feels a kind of soul cleansing here. There is a handicraft centre here very close by which sells the best of Sikkimese handicrafts. The entire town of Namchi is visible from here and the tourist gets taken in by the panoramic view of the lovely beautiful region of Namchi.
Duchen Cheling Monastery:
This is a monastery built on similar lines like that of Serdup Cheling Monastery. Namchi, located a kilometer away and this place has the credit being a part of the Nyingmapa Buddhist sect construction. The serenity and tranquility are a part and parcel of this monastery.
Kewzing Monastery:
Lying on the route to Ravangla from Namchi, this is a certain halt for people who want to feel the fresh and clear ambience of a serene surrounding. A tired tourist could halt here, have some rejuvenation and continue. That is the effect that this monastery gives to people.
Ahalay Monastery :
Monastery of H.E.Serdup Dungzin Rinpoche is located about 1 KM from Namchi. It is just above Baichung Stadium. Monastery stands overlooking range of Mt.Kanchunjunga.

This is a garden with a beautiful array of flowers. In February all flower lovers come here and see the flower show held here every year. This is largest of its kind in Sikkim and people are mesmerized with the vibrant colors and their variety. Orchids are a popular feature here and the rare display of exotic orchids is a wonderful feast for the eye. In addition, the place also hosts Namchi Mahotsav in October which is a tourism, culture and food festival.Salleybong Bul Cave
Also known as the 'wishing cave' in local circles, this is a holy site of Hindus. Distance from town is about 30 minutes drive.
Tirikhola Dancing Falls
It’s a 30-minute downhill drive from Namchi to get this attractive waterfall but an alternative foot-trail is quicker.
Timi Tea Garden
This is About 18 km from town. This is the one and only tea estate existing in the State produces one of the top quality teas in the international market. Temi Tea Garden was established in 1969. Timi Tea Garden is spread around an area of 500 acres of undulating hill-slopes, this picturesque tea garden is famous for it's tea garden is famous for it's 'tea' and known for it's unusual flavor. The autumn bloom of the cherry trees lining the road through the estate is indeed one of the most gorgeous sights. The garden employs about 450 people and produces 100 matric ton of orthodox tea annually. The garden produces some of the best teas in the world. The original tea saplings were brought from Darjeeling and the produce of the garden are not very different from what one can expect from the gardens of Darjeeling Hills.The tea garden is spread out on a gentle hill slope originating from the Tendong Hill and provides a magnificent view for the surrounding villages. The visit to the fact" could be an eye opener for those wanting to know more about the tea processing methods.There is facility of taking the tourist round the tea factory which shows how tea leaves are plucked, dried, powdered and manufactured into the favorite beverage that hits the table every morning at every tea lover’s house.Temi tea also a common souvenir for tourists visiting the state. Most of the tea produced in the garden is either consumed locally or purchased by tourists.A night spent in a old British built bungalow located just below the tea garden could be an enthralling experience of linking the past to the present. A visit to the garden, enroute to the Tendong Hill, could be a rewarding experience for those who want to cornbine nature and culture as they keep trekking.
Tendong State biodiversity Park
This park is located around about 16 km from the Namchi Town, repository of invaluable species of Himalayan medicinal plants and is looked after by the Forest Department. The Forest Department of Sikkim takes care of this. Rare species are found here and the Biodiversity Park is a conserved zone. A tourist coming here likes to know more about plants he has not seen and species he hasn’t found. It is also preserved for the conservation of these rare species.
Rayong Sunrise View PointWhen one goes to Ravangla from Namchi, this magnificently beautiful spot brings a tourist into a tearing halt and he stops to have a look at the beautiful view of the sunrise from here.Laying en route to Ravangla, 16 km from the town, this fascinating spot offers stunning views of sunrise flaring up the snowy peak of Mount Narshing, Jopuno Kabur and Pandim. The sunrise looks like a huge ball of flame exploding from behind these peaks. Tourists halt here and come here early morning to have a glimpse of the sunrise.Assangthang Village Experience

Baichung Stadium
Baichung Stadium is a football stadium in Namchi, The stadium was built by the Government of Sikkim in honour of Baichung Bhutia, India's most well known contemporary footballer. The state plans to actively promote the sport made popular after Bhutia became the first Indian to play in a European league and captain the national team. "The Gold Cup" football tournament is held in Bhaichung Stadium almost every year. Football teams from all over India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan vie for the honour.

A Ropeway is also being constructed from Samdruptse to Namchi town and then to Char Dham for People to see panaromic views of the hills.

Recently upgraded Central Park is a treat for visitors. Aquarium with various species of fish and musical fountains makes your spirit to relax.
Helipad :
Located about 5 KM from Namchi is a picturesque spot to relax and enjoy the nature. Helipad is located 5 kms away from town at an altitude of around 5000 fts. From here one can get the most panaromic view of Mt. Kanchanzonga with the surrounding mountain a part of Darjeeling Kalimgpong and the rolling plains of Bengal. The visitors can savour the breathtaking view of temi tea garden the one and the only tea estate in the state which produces top quality tea in the international market.
Flower show
In the month of February, the Namchi garden hosts it annual flower show. The flower show is the largest in Sikkim with flowers in a riot of colours. The prime attraction of this show is the display of exotic and rare orchids.
Rangit Water World:
This is a lake that has been formed by the Rangit Dam. There are facilities for swimming, boating and fishing here. Tourists come here for fun and enjoyment. Children have fun and this place situated around 26km from Ravangla is a good stopover for those who want to unwind with leisure.
RAVANGLA
A small town situated on the ridge separating the Teesta valley from the Rangit valley at an altitude of 6,800ft between the Meanam and Tendong hills Ravangla has turned into a natural tourist resort for its magical snow view; is lately emerged as a natural tourist retreat. Ravangla or Ravongla is a small tourist town situated at an elevation of 6,800 ft in South Sikkim district of Sikkim. This is a relatively new tourist spot in south Sikkim. Snuggled at the foothills of Mount Narsing, this sleepy little town also forms a neighbor of the mighty peaks of Mount Tendong and Mount Menam. It is the sub-divisional headquarter of the South district of Sikkim. Situated at an elevation of 6,800 ft the small picturesque semi town on the Gangtok-Gaysiling highway, Ravangla is becoming a hot destination for its breathtaking landscape and tranquility. The gompas of Old Ralang, Tashiding, Pemayangtse and Sangachoeling, all distantly visible against a horizon with snow-capped peaks. The town itself is a modern creation of little aesthetic distinction, but useful as a hub to visit Ralang. The town located in South Sikkim District is an ideal location for village tourism. Surrounding villages of Yangang, Tinkitam, Kewzing, Barfung & Bakhim are ideal for short stays in the homes of the villagers. The town of Ravangla harbors the Ralang Hot Springs. The Ralang Hot Springs have been streaming down the hilltops of India since 1768. Kabru are just a few of the major peaks that are clearly visible from here. The rocky topography of the region along with the verdant hills lends an enchanting effect to Ravangla. Upper parts of Ravangla experiences snowfall during winter.The beauty of its landscape and its location as a transit point to nearby destinations has made Ravangla a must-visit place. Thousands of known and unknown flowers are in full bloom during April-May and Ravangla gets a romantic look with the colours and fragrance of the flowers.Ravangla stages the Pang Lhabsol festival in a grand manner every year around August-September. The festivities last for three days, culminating in the traditional dances known as ‘Chaam’ on the last day.
The forest clad hills are spots of amazing eco-diversity. Ravangla itself has scrub forest which attracts a rich variety of Himalayan birds. They are home to many rare birds and animals especially found in the jungles of Oak, magnolia and rhododendron. Birds like Verditer Flycatchers, Blue-fronted Redstarts, Grey Bushchats, Dark throated Thrush, Blue whistling Thrush, Green backed Tit and white-browed Fantails can be easily spotted and should not be missed.This silent valley is favoured stop for birding the nearby Damtang forest (2 kms) and Maenam Wild Life Sanctuary (2.5 kms). The forests around Ravangla resound with the unmistakable calls of Laughingthrushes, Babblers, Cuckoos and Hill Partridge. The rare Satyr Tragopan makes Maenam a home and the lucky can hear its breeding call from the higher reaches of Ravangla.

A 12 km trek from Ravangla through the Oak, Pine, Rhododendron, Magnolia and fir forests will take you to Mainam peak at 10,600 ft. Another 1.5 km uphill trek leads to valedunga, a hilltop offering beautiful view to the surrounding mountains. The entire trek route passes through the Mainam Sanctuary which houses a rare collection of Himalayan species like the red panda, Himalayan black bear, leopard cat, black pheasant cat etc. It also acts as the starting point for the trek to maenam la wildlife sanctuary.Ravangla is rapidly expanding and spectacularly perched overlooking a wide sweep of western Sikkim.
This town comes alive during the Pang Lhabsol festival when the spectacular Warrior Dance is performed at the Ravang Monastery by the locals. Beyond these Ravangla has gained importance as a transit place for tourists on their way to Yuksam, Pemayangtse and trekkers or hikers aspiring to scale Menam peak.

Kheunpheling Carpet Centre
The carpet-weaving centre is in the Tibetan Refugee Settlement Camp located just above Ravangla town. The traditionally designed & woven woolen carpets produced here are amongst the finest Tibetan carpets one can buy anywhere.
Ralang Ralang is situated about 13 kms below Ravangla.having MONASTERY, GOOMPA and HOT SPRING to attract any travelers attraction.
Ralang Monastery
Ralang Monastery is a Buddhist monastery of the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It lies at a distance of approximately 6 km from Ravangla. There is a story attached to the construction of the monastery. After the fourth Chogyal came back from his pilgrimage, the Karmapa performed the Rabney (blessing). As per the ceremony, he threw grains from the Tsurphu Monastery in Tibet (the main seat of Karmapa). The ground where the grains fell, eventually, became the site for the Ralang Monastery. The monastery belongs to the Kagyupa order. One of the most significant as well as the most blessed monasteries in Sikkim, Ralang also serves as the residence of approximately one hundred monks. The period of 1975-1981 saw reconstruction work being carried out in the monastery. Then, in 1995, a new monastery, known as Palchen Choeling Monastic Institute", was built. Constructed by the 12th Gyaltsab Rimpoche, the monastery still retains the genuine Tibetan architecture. One of the major attractions of the Ralang Gompa of India is its amazing collection of paintings and thangkas. Ralang monastery plays host to an annual festival, known as Pang Lhabsol or the worship of Mount Khangchendzonga and Kagyad. Chaam masked dances are also organized every year, on the 15th day of the seventh month of the Buddhist calendar (August-September) and on the 29th day of the tenth month of the Buddhist calendar (December). The sacred Mahakala Dance takes place every year in the month of November.
Ralang Gompa
The Old Ralong Gompa is located very close to the new Palchen Choeling Monastic Institute. It was built in 1768. The GOMPA belongs of to Karma Kagyu sect. There are good views of Kabur, Narsing and Jopuno mountains in the backdrop of the GOMPA.
Ralang hot spring or Ralang Cha-chu,
The Ralong Hot Springs, known also as the Ralang Cha-chu, It is situated at a distance of 26 kms from Ravangla and 7 km from the village of Borong and 4 km from the Naya Bazaar on the banks of River Rangit. It is Located at an altitude of 8,000 ft above sea level, The average temperature of the water here is 50 degree Celsius and is rich in sulphur contents.The water of this hot spring has medicinal value as it contains sulphur and can cure skin diseases. Visitors spend a week or more soaking in these springs that have medicinal properties believed to cure many skin n other ailments of joints, bones n muscles. Apart from being medicinal, these springs also have religious importance, as they are found in one of the four holy caves of Sikkim. The area is also an ideal spot for butterfly and bird watchers.

Tendong Hill
Tendong Hill is a vantage point that provides a spectacular view of the valley in Sikkim. A 20 kms drive to Damthang & 2.5 hrs treks takes one upto the Tendong peak.The 8530 ft tall Tendong Hill is one of the most prominent attractions of Ravangla, as well as of the South Sikkim. For trekking enthusiasts and nature lovers, Tendong Hill is the perfect locale for mountain trekking owing to its tranquility and picture perfect view of nature. Offering a magnificent view of the splendid Himalayan ranges coupled with the valley that gives a feeling of being bottomless, the hill bordered by dense forests, and budding Magnolias & Rhododendrons makes the forests significant for exploring by trekking.
Tendong Hill is a renowned landmark in southern part of Sikkim. Owing to its tranquility, Tendong had been the hermit of Buddhist Lamas, who had spent years in meditation amidst the quiet scenic opulence. From the top of Tendong Hill, the vista appears to be inconceivable. It seems as if God himself might have thought twice after its creation, where everything is just perfect.The word Tendong derived from upraised horn from the Lepcha lore relating the time when a great flood submerged their land and Tendong rose up miraculously like a horn to save them.This hill is the subject of many myths passed down through generations of the indigenous Lepchas. Its name translates as “the upraised horn”, which has been given to it by the Lepchas, at the time when their land was submerged in flood waters. Since then, there has been a tradition at this hill, that a monk visits it during the monsoons and stays there throughout the season, continuously praying that the calamity does not repeat itself.
Tendong Hill (8500 feet) offers a spectacular 360 degree view of Sikkim and the distant plains of North Bengal. A panoramic view from the Hill scans the grand Himalayan ranges together with the valley that gives the impression of it being bottomless. The Hill is encircled by dense forests, which abodes blossoming tress like that of magnolia and rhododendron. These forests are worth exploring and who knows if you could come out with some fantastic sighting. Tendong Hill overlooks Namchi and far away, one can see plains of Bengal. One can easily come to Tendong by trekking through Ravangla and if you still want to trek more, you can move towards Maenam Hill that lies above Tendong Hill.
MenamSanctuary
Menam (10,600 ft) is located about 12 km up hill trek from Ravangla. A traditional meditation site for the monks it is also vantage location for a spectacular view the mountains at sunrise. The trek takes about 2.5 hrs to 4 hrs (depending on one's speed) and winds through a thick forest of oak, chestnut, magnolia and rhododendron trees. The forest is a riot of colours during spring (March/April). A natural habitat of the red panda, Himalayan black bear and many species of deer, this area is designated as a Wildlife Sanctuary and the motto of leaving only footprints & taking back only photographs & good memories is required to be followed strictly to maintain the area.
Menam Hill:
Menam Hill towers above Tendong Hill on the other side over-lookjing the Ravangla bazaar settlement. Situated at an altitude of 10,300 ft, the scenic view from this height is, perhaps, unmatched in this part of the world. Mt Khangchendzonga and its surrounding ranges loom above to dwarf the richly forested and rugged hills. On a clear sunny day, it is possible to see the plains of Bengal spanning across Kalimpong and Darjeeling hills in the South, right across to the Indo-China border towards the North. A short distance away is the lengendary Bhaley Dunga, a kind of rocky spur which juts out from the ridge top and remains suspended in the air above Yangang village. The trek to Menam from Ravangla takes about 4 hours and from Menam hill-top one has the option to take the gentle trek to Borong village or follow the more treacherous trails taken by the famous British Botanist, Sir Joseph Hooker, down to Yangang village. The wonderful sight is to be seen to be believed.

Doling Gompa
The Doling Gompa or Monastery is situated in the Barfung Village. This Gompa or monastery follows the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism, which is also the oldest sect and commonly referred to as the Red Hat sect. Located about 4 kms away in the Barfung village amidst cardamom plantations, a hike to the monastery also allows one a close experience of the rich flora & avifauna of the area. Its location amongst the cardamom plantations also provides an opportunity to see the rich flora and fauna of the region.
Kewzing Village:-
8 kms from Ravangla is Kewzing Village which offers the opportunity of experiencing the rural life in Sikkim. You can stay here with a local family in village home stays and experience the warmth of Sikkimese hospitality. The Bon Monastery here is the only one of its kind in Sikkim and is a symbol of the determination of a community to preserve their religious traditions. Located 2 kms from Kewzing bazaar is the Mangbrue Gompa, which follows the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism. The invading Bhutanese army used this strategic location in the 19th century and the ruins of their bunkers and outposts can still be seen.
Bon Monastery
Besides the main Legship road, 5.5 kms from central Ravangla at Kewzing, small but fascinating Yung Drung Kundrak Lingbon is the only Bon Monastery in Sikkim. The Bon faith preceded Buddhism in Tibet. Its relevance and impact on Buddhist philosophy is brought superbly alive by the impeccable explanations of the monastery’s joyful English teacher, Lama Yungdrung Tenzing.
The Bon faith flourished in Tibet upto the 8th Century AD prior to the advent of Buddhism. It is believed that many of it's rituals were assimilated in Buddhism like the prayer flags, burning of incense etc. and with the passage of time this faith was also influenced by Buddhism and has now been accepted as a part of Buddhism. The Bon monastery at Kewzing, the only one of its kind in Sikkim, is located 5 km from Ravangla. This monastery was established in the latter half of 1980s and is a symbol of the determination of a community of people at Kewzing to preserve their religious traditions.
Mangbrue Gompa & view point
Located 8 km above Kewzing, the Mangbrue Gompa is also an excellent view point of the mountains and hills.
Handicraft centre, Kewzing A training centre set up by the government to keep alive the tradition of Sikkimese handicraft & handloom. At the centre one can observe young boys & girls learn the intricate art of wood carving & weaving. This is also a place to pick up some local souvenirs.
Tinkitam
Tinkitam is a quaint small Sikkimese village situated 6 km away from the town of Ravangla. The place is mainly famous for being the home of the Indian soccer celebrity, Baichung Bhutia. But known only to orchid lovers this village is also the natural habitat to a rare species of orchid. The surroundings of this village are home to rare species of orchids and Paphiopedilum Faireanum, popularly known as ladies slipper. The orchids present near this village are are terrestrial orchids that bloom during the months of October and November. An effort is underway to preserve the natural habitat of this beautiful flower. The location of Tinkitam Village also provides a view of the dormant volcano that one can come across during the trek from Dentham to Tendong National Park. Tinkitam Village is being promoted as a tourist destination. Mount Kanchenjanga lies in the background of Tinkitam Village.
Borong
Facing the snow-capped mountains is Borongmotorable from Ravangla or a trek via Maenam.A picturesque village with beautiful landscape and magnificent view is also host to the hot spring"Borong Tsa-Chu". Located at an altitude of 5,800 feet, Borong is one of the most beautiful destinations in South Sikkim. Situated around 17 km from Ravangla, the destination is home to a hot spring, which is known as Borong Tsa Chu. Tourists visiting Borong can enjoy beautiful views of Mount Kanchenjunga as well as the peaks of Sinolchu, Narsingh and Pandim. For bird lovers, Borong is one of the ideal locations as it is home to several species of birds such as scarlet minivet, black magpie and Himalayan pheasants. Other than this, trekking is another activity here, which attracts trekkers from all over the world. Borong provides a good base to those trekking to Maenam Peak.
One can catch a glimpse of some extraordinary views of Mt. Kanchenjungha and other the snowcapped peaks. And a spectacular sight of sunrise from the snow-covered mountains is perhaps the main reason behind a visit to this beautiful place. One can also look for glances of Sinolchu, Narsingh and Pandim peaks.

Sikip:
Sikip is another destination that is getting renowned due to its serene atmosphere and great hide-out. Perched on the banks of river Rangeet in a natural surrounding is an excellent fishing spot and river campsite. This place is Anglers paradise, and also has charming natural surrounding. One can also opt for rafting on the river.
Phur-cha-chu (Hot Springs):
Ideal spot for bird watching and butterflies.At 8 kms from Legship and 34 km from Ravangla towards Naya Bazaar on the banksof river Rangit, lies the popular Hot Sulphur Springs. Its great medicinal values as well as religious importance attract many tourists and local devotees. The place is also important for two sacred caves Khandosangphu and Sharchog Begphu, where the great Buddhist Saint Padmashambhava is believed to have meditated during His journey to Tibet in 7th century.
Khandosangphu and Sharchog Bephug
These are two of the four holy caves where Guru Padmasambhava, the saint who spread Buddhism in Tibet in the 7th century AD, is said to have meditated during his journey to Tibet.
Khandosangphu - the cave of the occult fairies is located 34 kms from Ravangla (8 kms beyond Legshep). The legendary fight between Guru Rimpoche & a female demon who was terrorising the area is manifested in the rock formations in the cave. A place for pilgrimage to the devout, there is also a hot sulphur spring "Phur Cha-chu" where people come to bath during the winter months.
Sharchog Bephug is at Sangmo village about 8 kms from Ravangla is the largest of holy caves and it is said to extend into the Menam and Tendong hills.
Buddha Park (Sakyamuni Project), Rabong:-
2006 marked the 2550th birth anniversary of Lord Gautama Buddha. The state government in a policy decision had decided to observe the birth anniversary throughout the year in Sikkim. As a part of the celebrations, an initiative was taken by the people of Rabong to construct and install a statue of Lord Buddha at Rabong, to commemorate the 2550th year, and also to develop the Buddhist Circuit in Sikkim. The state government has already kicked off the Buddhist circuit and this project would give the much required impetus to boost tourism and attract pilgrim tourists to the area.
Singchu-thang
: 45 km from Gangtok at an altitude of 3,500 ft on the banks of river Tista, Singchu-thang is ideal for white water sports and picturesque picnic. It literelly means, The plain overgrown with dwarf plants and shrubs’.
TESTA BAZAR
Teesta Bazaar is a small town in SOUTH DISTRICT of SIKKIM.it is an upcoming Tourist destination in this region.
Teesta Bazaar, also known as tenth mile among local people, is a shopper's paradise and the main bazaar (market) area in Kalimpong. Situated 90m above sea level, it is located on National Highway 31A on the Siliguri – Gangtok highway. Teesta Bazaar is located 4 kms downwards from the industrial town of Melli. This is where the Teesta River flows into West Bengal.The main market flourishes with craft, handicraft items and artefacts made by local craftsmen. The main attractions of the Bazaar are the costly crafted items which are not easily available elsewhere. One can shop for local items like thankas, crockery, daggers, footwear, lanterns, copper items, silver wares, jewellery and food items at moderate rates from this bazaar. Most of the area here is patrolled by the IndianArmy as it comes under a sensitive border area.

Jorethang Jorethang is a major town in the South District of Sikkim. It on the Rangeet river, a tributary of River Teesta. The town is well connected to Darjeeling, Siliguri and Kalimpong. River rafting can be undertaken near Jorethang.
Maghe Sankranti:
Celebrated on the first day of the month of Magh (January), the festival continues for three days. It is one of the holy festivals of the Hindus. Huge fairs are organized along the river banks and confluence of the rivers. Jorethang, Saramsa, Rorathang and Triveni are places where such fairs are held every year. The rituals are solemnized from dawn at the banks of the rivers, which is indeed a rare spectle to watch.
Melli or MELLI BAZAR is another spot of tourist attraction in this days not only by itself only also for its soroundings.
Melli or MELLI BAZAR
Melli which is also spelt Malli and also known as MELLI BAZAR is a town on the West Bengal-Sikkim border near the River Teesta. The appellation Melli in Nepali means "the place where the dead are cremated". Melli is one of the few towns in India that lie in two different states. A bridge named Jawaharlal Nehru Bridge connects the two parts of the town. It is the longest bridge in Sikkim. The part of the town in West Bengal is also called as Melli Bazaar. The town lies on National Highway 31A connecting NEW JALPAIGURI/BAGDOGRA to Gangtok and also to oter parts of SIKKIM. Melli is the main entry point for West and South Sikkim districts The town lies at an elevation of about 100 m. It is located 7 km upstream from Teesta Bazaar. On the Sikkim side lies Yuksom Breweries which produces most of the beer in the region. The brewery and a biscuit factory are the major industries in the region. River rafting can also be undertaken from this point.
Tooruk
Tooruk is situated just 30 minutes drive from Malli Bazaar in South Sikkim; Tooruk offers a soothing refuge from the bustling city life, with its exotic natural splendor. You could just relax on the lawns and be pampered by fresh air and the surroundings of Tooruk Estate. Tooruk is a private estate spanning 9 acres of lush greenery and the heritage home is the only accommodation here.
The main attraction in Tooruk is the Heritage Home, an age-old estate built amidst acres of exotic varieties of flora and fauna. It needs to be added here that Tooruk is a private estate spanning 9 acres and the heritage home is the only accommodation here. There are separate cottages having accommodation for a total of 12 people in 4 cottages. There are no telephones or television in the cottages and who needs them in such a tranquil paradise. But to answer to the morden days need and habits a minimum avalibility of a Television is here on the Common lounge area in the main house. Delicious homemade dishes, prepared from organically grown fresh vegetables and fruits are also served to the guests. Eggs and chicken also constitute a part of the menu.
