(xiv) AADMA VILLAGE
AADMA VILLAGE IN DOOARS
AADMA VILLAGE is an another forest village under BUXA NATIONAL PARK situated in the JALPAIGURI DISTRICT of West Bengal very close to JAINTI. This village belongs to the Dukpa community who accept the tough lifestyles of their remoteness of Buxa Tiger Reserve in DOOARS. If any traveler is willing to touch the real tribal culture and their lifestyle this is the place where he should visit and highly advised to spend a night. The Dukpa’s lifestyles perfectly prove a proverb that says, “Things never change, we change our way of looking things, that’s all”. The futile brawls regarding territories and boundaries of countries are just the dramatic implementation of man- made policies, it never can change the hearts of people. This will be perfectly experienced when one spends a night in AADMA, a remote villages in Buxa tiger reserve. As the regions shares its historical boundaries with BHUTAN, the community of this place seem like they have recently known their nationality as Indian and not Bhutanese. The smiling wrinkled faces showing their rusty teeth due to their habit of incessantly chewing Doma Paan (Betel leaf and fermented betel nut) will herald your arrival with bowed heads making you feel like a discoverer. Their enchanting lays in the dizzy silhouette of sloping woods creates a perfect match and reveals their role in the beauty of nature. Their special tea which is called suzi in their language will certainly quench your appetite. It is a salty tea which they prepare in bamboo utensil putting the pure ghee. In the first instance it will moreover taste like a soup rather than tea. The beautifully designed wooden houses and the double story casements allow the travelers to feel the wind cascaded with the scent of jungle. The holistically decorated images of King and queen of Bhutan will sometime make them feel that they are in the land of Bhutan away from India, away from the home, away from the sonorous beeps of busy streets and altogether in a place that ultimately makes the traveler feel like a stranger, an adventurer. Most of the people from the village still travel to Bhutan for their basic necessities and are still trying their best to believe in themselves that they are Indians. All the people including men and women live a nomadic life for six months when they graze their cattle in the jungle. This is the period when they keep on traveling in herds with families and cattle in search of cattle food. They return home only when the monsoon starts with their increased number of cattle and some times even their own family with new born babies. The houses in the village reveal that their economic condition was quiet good in their past time. Perhaps the houses were built in the period of orange cultivation when the whole village was engaged in orange cultivation in the forest land about which they were innocent. After few years of happy days the orange orchards were evicted and ceased by forest department following the rules of no- community rights in protected areas. Since then the economic condition of the village has bee ramped down. It’s before recent years that the administrative departments have now been working to develop the economic condition of the village along with educational facilities and health facilities. With all such common reasons, the place still holds the smiling faces whose hospitality will merely make you oblivious of all the selfish urbanized world. So if you have a heart of an explorer AADMA can be the best destination in visitors list.

LEPCHAKHA is another awesome upcoming tourist destination of DOOARS situated in the BUXA HILLS of the JALPAIGURI DISTRICT in West Bengal. This destination still posses the essence of raw nature and it can be explored only by treeking. The treeking of this LEPCHAKHA originates from BUXADUAR. LEPCHAKHA
is a small Drukpa village on a hilltop inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve. This village
with a very small population of about a hundred people is located very close to BHUTAN,
in an areal distance not being more than 2 kms. having a boarder outpost of the
security agencies here.
The
main attraction of LEPCHAKHA is the view from the hilltop. There is a large
ground where you can seat on a bench and be mesmerised by the view of DOOARS in
front. Almost the entire Buxa forest area is visible from here including every
nook and corner. As many as seven rivers flowing through the Buxa forest can be
seen from here. To your extreme left travelers can see river Sankosh followed
by River Raidak, Jayanti, Bala and others. They can also see Alipurduar town,
JAINTI RIVERBED, Santalabari and the entire green cover in front of them and
while turning around and behind they will witness the hills of Mahakal, Chuna
bhatti and Rovers point which together makes for a great trek.
People of the village are also very unique. The Drukpa people are the original inhabitant of the place. These people are Bhutanese in origin and have unique culture different from the Nepalese who dominate lower part of the hills. The architecture of the Drukpa house is also unique.
The trekking route from Buxa Fort, to this place is also fascinating. This road compelled the trekkers to take almost one and half hour to cross. The walk ahead was bit tough for the first time trekkers, but easy at all goes for the regular hill-toers. But at the end of the trek, it was an awesome experience to see ourselves standing on a hill-top having the view of plains and jungles of Terai in front. The sights of the valley down the hills, the peaks peeping over the lofty trees, the tiny colourful blossoms spread all over the slopes in plenty tailor-made the heaven
A night-stay here could be excellent. As many nature lover tells themselves that the LEPCHAKHA is the place, from where the stairs to heaven ascends. From the lush green meadow just a few steps ahead the entry point of the village we got a picturesque view of the plain of DOOARS embracing numerous small to big rivers which lied like silver ribbons amongst the misty green patches of land or jungles.
LEPCHAKHA is a place where silence extends its own magic and loneliness finds its true definition. The clam nature of the village dwellers adds so much to the environment that one can make a hands-on will for spending her/his rest of the life there. LEPCHAKHA is also, probably the only place in North Bengal from where the sky can be seen at its greatest expansion on fogless nights.
There is a small monastery situated within the village and an army check post is also there due to border securities. The most important thing is that there is no electricity and almost no network connection available in LEPCHAKHA and for all this this is truly called as valley of silence.
