KATHMANDU SECTOR
The cultural heritage of the KATHMANDU SECTOR is illustrated by seven groups of monuments and buildings which display the full range of historic and artistic achievements for which the Kathmandu Valley is world famous. The seven include the Durbar Squares of Hanuman Dhoka (Kathmandu), Patan and Bhaktapur, the Buddhist stupas of Swayambhu and Bauddhanath and the Hindu temples of Pashupati and Changu Narayan.
The KATHMANDU SECTOR is located in Nepal, lies at the crossroads of ancient civilizations of Asia, and has at least 130 important monuments, including several places of pilgrimage for the Hindus and the Buddhists. There are seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites within this valley. Historically, only the Kathmandu Valley was referred to as "Nepal" by people who lived outside the valley. After the annexation of the valley by the Gorkha kingdom, and subsequent conversion of the valley as the capital of their empire, this designation of "Nepal" was extended to every land they conquered. The valley itself was referred to as "Nepal Proper" by British historians.The Kathmandu Valley is a region of 230 sq.miles in the the Bagmati Administrative Zone in central Nepal, and is home to three of the largest cities in Nepal, including Kathmandu itself, as well as hundreds of smaller towns and villages. As this Sector is still considered as the most momentous tourist destination of NEPAL it is obvious that it is filed with numerous tourist attractions. For the convenience of our valued guests we have divided this sector in three part viz. (A) KATHMANDU VALLEY PART, (B) KATHMANDU SOUTH EAST OUTER PART, (C) KATHMANDU NORTH WEST OUTER PART.
(A) KATHMANDU VALLEY PART
This part is consisted with 3 Districts namely KATHMANDU CITY and the rest part of KATHUMANDU DISTRICT, LALITPUR or PATHAN DISTRICT and BHAKTAPUR or BHADGAON DISTRICT. The main spots of this part are
(a) KATHMANDU CITY, (b) BOUDHANATH-(BOUDHA), (c) DAKSHINAKALI,
(d) PATHAN (LALITPUR), (d) BHAKTAPUR (BHADGAON) , (e) NAGARKOT.
The fertile, mountain-sheltered Kathmandu Valley is the historic heart of Nepal where the Himalaya's most sophisticated kingdoms rose and fell and where Nepali art and culture were developed and refined. It is also reffered in many ways the Kathmandu Valley is Nepal.The artistic richness of the valley is reflected in the six Unesco World Heritage sites that lie scattered around the valley like jewelled confetti. They include the ancient Buddhist stupas of Swaymbhunath (affectionately known as the 'Monkey Temple') and Bodhnath. The Pashupati nath Temple ranks as Nepal's most important Hindu site and attracts pious pilgrims and dreadlocked sadhus (holy men) from all over the subcontinent. Newari architecture reaches its pinnacle in the breathtaking Durbar squares of Patan and Bhaktapur, the third and most traditional of the valley's three former kingdoms. Just outside Bhaktapur is the Changu Narayan Temple, an open-air museum of stone-carved masterpieces. All these sites are easily visited as day trips from Kathmandu.

The valley, roughly oval bowl measuring 24 km east-west and 19 km north-south, is encircled by a range of green terraced hills and dotted by compact clusters of red tiled-roofed houses. A remarkable legend speaks that the valley was once covered by a lake until the Bodhisattva Manjushri raised his sword of wisdom and sliced a passage through the mountain walls, draining the water and creating the first settlements.The valley embraces most of Nepal's ethinc groups, but Newars are the indigenous inhabitants and the creators of the valley's splendid civilization.

The city KATHMANDU is the urban core of the Kathmandu Valley in the Himalayas, which contains two sister cities namely Lalitpur or Patan, just 5 Km to its south and Bhaktapur or Bhadgaon, just 12 km to its east, and a number of smaller towns. It is also acronymed as 'KTM' and named 'tri-city.
