(i) TRASHIGANG SECTOR:-
TRASHIGANG also spelled Tashigang, is Bhutan’s easternmost district. TRASHIGANG lies in the far east of Bhutan. Tashigang, town is the district capital of the TRASHIGANG DZONGkhag(district).It lies on the east side of the valley above the Drangme Chhu River just south of where it is joined by the Gamri River. TRASHIGANG is the eastern terminus of the Lateral Road, Bhutan's main highway leading to Phuntsholing in the southwest.

In particular, the unusual Merak and Sakteng people come to TRASHIGANG to trade yak's butter for the provisions that they need in the mountains. Merak and Sakteng are located about 50 miles East of TRASHIGANG close to the border with India's Arunachal Pradesh. TRASHIGANG used to be part of an important trade route connecting Assam to Tibet, and still is a primary route for Bhutanese trade with India. Major cities include TRASHIGANG, Radhi, and Phongmey. The district produces a lot of rice and lavender.
While not a major urban area, TRASHIGANG has the densest population in Bhutan. TRASHIGANG DZONGkhag is also the site of Sherubtse College, the original college within the Royal University of Bhutan system. TRASHIGANG is one of Bhutan’s more interestingtowns and a good base for excursions to Trashi Yangtse, Khaling, Radi, Phongme and elsewhere in eastern Bhutan. As like the other spots Trashing also offer many attractions of its visitors the main of those are:-
TRASHIGANG DZONG
This DZONG, or fortress, was built in 1659 by the third Druk Desi to defend against Tibetan invaders.Because of its altitude invading armies remarked that “it is not a DZONG on the ground, it is in the sky”. TRASHIGANG DZONG is famous for its architectural beauty. A look from the entrance of the DZONG takes one to the 'palace of Prince Charles of Cinderella'. The sloping walls of the DZONG, the stones all painted white, the lower section of the walls without any window that makes it look majestic, the huge wooden and iron gates, the walls surrounding multiple courtyards, temples, monasteries and the interior walls engraved with Buddhist themes- makes this Fortress one of the best ones in the country. The hill is steep from the three sides, making the fort accessible only from one side. The fort has been renovated multiple times to keep its beauty alive forever.
Chorten Kora
This dazzling white stupa is situated on the riverbank below the town. Constructed in 1740 by Lama Ngawang Loday, it is built in the same style as Bodhnath stupa in Nepal, with eyes painted at the four cardinal points. During the second month of the lunar calendar there is an interesting celebration here, known as 'Kora'. Bomdeling A pleasant walk of about three hours from Chorten Kora, Bomdeling is an annual migration place for black-necked cranes, which fly over from nearby Tibet to pass the winter months in a warmer climate.
Gom Kora
An ancient LHAKHANG or temple in the district, known for its rock garden, contains a sacred footprint said to be either that of Guru Rimpoche or that of a khandroma (angel). 24 km. from TRASHIGANG, the temple of Gom Kora is set on a small alluvial plateau overlooking the river. Surrounded by rice fields and clumps of banana trees, it looks like an oasis in an arid landscape. It is one of the famous places where Guru Rinpoche meditated in order to subdue a demon which dwelt in a huge black rock.
Trashiyangtse DZONG
Trashiyangtse DZONG meaning ‘Fortress of Auspicious Fortune’ was re-built in 1656 by Terton Pema Lingpa from the ruins of Dongdi DZONG of 9th century. It was further renovated and sanctified by a sacred consecration ceremony in 2005.
Bomdelling
A pleasant walk of about three hours from Chorten Kora, Bomdeling is an annual migration place for black-necked craens, which fly over from nearby Tibet to pass the winter months in a warmer climate.
Ranjung Woesel Chholing
This monastery is more than half an hour drive from TRASHIGANG town. It is a Nyingmapa monastery founded by Garab Rinpoche in 1990. One can get a good view of the valley from the monastery.
Radi,
Radi is just 8 km north of Rangjung - known as the "rice basket in the east" - also Radi LHAKHANG (temple).
Sakten,
Sakten is in the northern most part of Tashigang district - a great area for trekking. Yak and dzo (female yak) are common in this area.
Khaling –
Khaling is a small town famous for its weaving center operated the National Women's Association of Bhutan.
Kanglung, Bhutan Kanglung is a town in eastern Bhutan. It is located in TRASHIGANG District beside the east west highway of Bhutan. The total population of the village is less than 2000 (excluding the students of Sherubtse College). There is one GREF camp at Kanglung and a good restaurant, Sangrila (The may not serve hot coffee). It is the home to Sherubtse College, one of the Royal University of Bhutan'sacademic institutes, the first college in Bhutan, founded by Fr William Mackey an eminent personally who did a lot for the development of the education sector of Bhutan. There are chances that this town may become the eastern business center of Bhutan and a lot of foreigners (Mostly Indians and a few Canadians) work at the college. All around the college you have green plantations and lofty peaks (Thanks to the college authorities who are very keen in protecting the environment). You will see a lot of flowering trees and plants around during the spring season.
Yonphula Yonphula is a high peak in the Eastern District,TRASHIGANG of Bhutan,where the IMTRAT (Indian Military Training Team) office and the high altitude Airport is located. Yonphula gives you the most heavenly view of the Gandhi peak (Beyond this peak is China) of Arunachal Pradesh (India), heading north.
Yonphula Airport The high altitude airport of Yonphula was not open to civilian airplanes (It was used by the Indian military as a base station.). It was made by flattening the long ridge of a mountain. A slight deviation by the airplane on either side would force it to fall down into the deep valley. Bhutanese pilots are known all over the world for their expertise in flying the airplane along the most unpredictable air routes.

Yonphula Lake The high altitude lake at Yonphula, beside the airport was awesome, thanks to the tectonic forces of nature. The temperature of the lakes water drops down to freezing point during the winter season.
Trekking from the lake to sum higher to sum higher altitude would give you the panoramic view of the picks of Arunachal Pradesh very clearly probably the Gandhi cap Peak near Tawang.
Pasaphu Village
Pasaphu Village is in Thrimshing district. It is famous for its handmade cane baskets and other cane products can also be explored from here.
