(ii) NAL RAJAR GARH
NAL RAJAR GARH IN DOOARS
Besides the Forrest part and the wildlife of CHILAPATA RESERVE FOREST this
sector is enriched with its own archaeological and historical importance as well.
NAL RAJAR GARH is the most ancient historical place of the entire DOOARS region on the bank of River Bania. The ruins of the fort tell the history of the Nal kings. There is a bit controversy regarding the actual history of this ancient place. Sum says it was the 1st capital of the historic KAMTA KINGDOM as during the 7th century KAMTA KINGDOM in the name of KAMTAPUR STATE emerged as a sovereign state.
The other says this is one of the largest secular monuments of GUPTA PERIOD built during 5th century. The BRITISHERS called it as "MANDAMARI RUINS". Locals call this as NAL RAJAR GARH.

Only the ruins of this historical fort are left now. Sadly not at all maintained. The
WALL OF NAL RAJAR GARH
portion visible from the forestry road is the entrance
of the fort. It was actually the entry door of the fort.
The fortification of this NAL RAJAR GARH covers
around half a mile of area, but at present it is almost
impossible to venture the interiors.
Travelers can have a trip of visiting inside on foot
though it might be dangerous and not at all
advised or recommended as the innervation is
filled with many poison's snakes. If the visitor have the courage to visit inside
actually bending quite a bit or crawling as most part of the gate had been buried
under earth they will find many brick aqueducts there which is said to be the

inspect here is the
RAM GUNA TREE i.e.
"the tree that bleeds".
This species of tree is
available only in this
place and there are
only a few of them can be found now and any attempt to grow it elsewhere had failed. The specialty of these trees are if they are cut a bit sum sorts of sticky red liquid comes out every time. Locals says rather the myth is that while the fort was being destroyed and buried due to the curse, some faithful guards favoured to be associated with the fort out of their loyalty and were transformed into trees and since then there are still guarding the ruins of the fort. And the bizarre thing with these trees is that they bleed just like humans if they are cut.
